About The Week: This week we learned all about dancers. The class learned that there are many different types of dance and that anyone can be a dancer. We tried out many different dance styles and added a dancer page to our job book. In Math we played a race to the top game where students had to combine two numbers and fill in the right numbered square. They had a lot of fun with this game. In language arts we focused on individual skill building. Some students were matching upper and lower case letters, some were identifying the beginning sounds in words, and others were working on building their oral vocabulary. In Science we focused on the sense of smell. We conducted an experiment were we made opinions on how things would smell based on looking at the item. Then we smelled each item and recorded our new answers. On Thursday we went to Mr. Tolley's senior music class to watch the students perform original songs they wrote in class. All of the songs were very impressive. The students were often quite surprised by how the different things smelled. Friday we ended the week by doing jump rope for healthy hearts. Students were taught lessons by fourth graders, watched a third grade jump rope routine, played jump rope games and participated in a one hour jump rope marathon. It was a lot of fun! I hope everyone has a good weekend! Checkout the slideshow below for a look at out week and the Special Events page for pictures from Thursday and Fridays events. Reminders: -We do not have school this Thursday or Friday.

About the Weeks: February began full of festivities with the celebration of the 100th day of school and our second library day of the year. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend Library Day. The students had a great time and always love being able to share time at school with their parents. Pre-K celebrated the 100th day of school one day after the rest of the school so that we would have time for all of our celebration activities. On the 100th day we drew 100 items on the board, made necklaces with 100 pieces of cereal, filled our bags with 100 stickers and treats, and made towers with 100 cups. In math we focused especially on recognizing and counting the numbers 11-20. In language arts our focus was on the letter N as well as identifying letters at the beginning of words. In Social Studies we were learning about the police officer and continued to work on our jobs flip book. In Science we started discussing the sense of smell. If you would like to see pictures from Library Day and the 100th day of school please go to the special events page! Reminders:
Time has flown and the month of January has come and gone. In January we started learning about our 5 senses and about different jobs. We learned that are eyes are very important. We use them to see and without them getting around in the world would be very difficult. We also learned about how we use our ears to hear. We discovered all of the different types of sounds that can be heard and created around us. For each sense we learn we have made a special props that represents it. So far we have made binoculars and shakers. In social studies we are learning that there are many different types of jobs in the world and each one is special in their own way. So far we have focused on helpers such as police officers and firefighters. In language arts and math we have been expanding our knowledge of letters and numbers. We are trying to understand the sounds letters make and different ways they can be put together. We have also continued to have reading time with our second grade buddies at the end of the day on Fridays. We have been practicing writing out numbers 0-20 and been trying to gain a greater understanding for what these numbers mean and how to recognize them. We have seen some special events this month. We had a new friend join our class this month, Sajjad. He has been a great addition to our class and we all enjoy having him here. We also had our first Jeopar-bee of the year. Students showed of their knowledge in a fun game that is a mix of a spelling bee and Jeopardy. To take a look at our month, check out the pictures below! |
