Time has flown and the month of January has come and gone. In January we started learning about our 5 senses and about different jobs. We learned that are eyes are very important. We use them to see and without them getting around in the world would be very difficult. We also learned about how we use our ears to hear. We discovered all of the different types of sounds that can be heard and created around us. For each sense we learn we have made a special props that represents it. So far we have made binoculars and shakers. In social studies we are learning that there are many different types of jobs in the world and each one is special in their own way. So far we have focused on helpers such as police officers and firefighters. In language arts and math we have been expanding our knowledge of letters and numbers. We are trying to understand the sounds letters make and different ways they can be put together. We have also continued to have reading time with our second grade buddies at the end of the day on Fridays. We have been practicing writing out numbers 0-20 and been trying to gain a greater understanding for what these numbers mean and how to recognize them. We have seen some special events this month. We had a new friend join our class this month, Sajjad. He has been a great addition to our class and we all enjoy having him here. We also had our first Jeopar-bee of the year. The winter concert was one of the last events of the year and the kids did wonderfully. Check out the pictures below for a look at our December fun. About the Week: This week was full of thankfulness and discovery. In math we were learning about how shapes can be found in everything around us. We went on a shape hunt around the school and made a list of all the different shapes we fund in each room. So if your children start to show you shapes they see in their house this might be why. :) We also discussed the word thankful and what it means. We talked about how we are fortunate to have what we have and that it is important to take time and show people we care about them. We drew a lot of pictures of things we were happy we had or that we could do. Then at the end of the week we made a card for one person from school that we were thankful to see every day. WE also took some time to get together and share with the Kindergarten. Each class prepared some food and on Thursday we came together to share the food, cuddle with stuffed animals and watch a movie, It was a great way to end the short week, --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reminders:
